the use of hemp dates back thousends
of years. commercial hemp (cannabis
sativa) has a maximum thc content of
0.2% and thus no intoxicating effect. the
non-toxic plant can be grown in europe‘s
temperate climate, doesn‘t need
pesticides, fertilizer or plant protection
products and can be grown in a wide
variety of soils and requires hardly any
irrigation.
all parts of the plants are either edible or can be processed into products.
for this project I used materials made from the leaves and mainly the stems.
an approach that produced interesting results was to combine the strong, tear-resistant hemp fibres with a biodegradable bioplastic based on water, starch, vinegar and glycerine.
logos and information can be added using laser engraving, fertilizer can be added to the material to nourish the plants, different forms of pots and trays can be formed from the material
stackable, light, water permeable, moister regulating biodegradable plant pots
two months after being planted in the soil, the pot had almost completely disintegrated.
